Dr. Veronica always like to start off by saying, welcome! She, too, has a brain that runs incredibly fast paced (aka ADHD) so this is one of her favorite topics and chiropractic care is her number one way of supporting her own brain's ability to process and adapt to information and circumstances.

Many of the parents and children we see with these neurodivergent traits are in one of three categories:

1. they have been diagnosed and are on medication and wanting to get off of medication because of the way the medications make them feel.
2. they have been diagnosed and are wondering what options they have outside of medication to support their or their loved ones naturally.
3. they are undiagnosed, but have questions, are having trouble sleeping because they cannot turn off their brain, and notice that the procrastination, inability to focus, strong need for order or routine, is starting to inhibit their ability to navigate school, work, or day to day life.

We want to start off by saying there is nothing "wrong" with you. We are here to help your brain find optimal function without inhibiting the "super power" you have of a fast moving, efficiently adaptable brain. Let's talk about how!

"Noisy brain." That is the term we use for things like ADD, ADHD, and OCD in our office. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your brain. In fact, it's doing exactly what it was designed to do. A brain with ADD/ADHD/OCD (we will refer to this as neurodivergence from now on because it refers to the natural variation in how human brains function and process information), processes information at an exceptionally fast rate.

And this can be really helpful when we need to focus or need to be adaptable. But just like with everything else in life, too much of anything will result in outcomes we don't always want. Trouble focusing. Not being able to wind down and get to sleep. Trouble following tasks and completing work. Brain fog. Chronic fatigue and irritability. And more. These are just some of the common symptoms someone with a neurodivergent brain may experience and they all stem from one thing: a nervous system that is stuck in overdrive.

In our office we refer to the intricate design of the nervous system in a very simplified analogy. A car that has a gas pedal and a break pedal. Your nervous system has two systems that work together. Your central nervous system and your peripheral nervous system. In the central nervous system there are two more systems that work together called the sympathetic system and the parasympathetic nervous system.

The sympathetic nervous system is referred to as your gas pedal because it is the fight/flight/freeze/fawn response. When the brain determines the body is in danger it will activate this response to seek safety. When these two symptoms are working well, you will find your body switch into a parasympathetic response when the danger has gone and the body feels safe.

The problem? When you have experienced a myriad of stressors early on and frequently in life (from things as early as birth trauma, the mental stress of your mother while your were developing in the womb, and overall just the stress of being a human in this day and age) the body forgets how to get out of the gas pedal response and stays there.

This means that normal, everyday stressors seem like massive threats. Your kids crying, your boss scheduling that random meeting on the calendar with no context, the phone buzzing with a "we need to talk" message, and social media headliners can all trigger this gas pedal keeping the body in overdrive. And for a neurodivergent brain like ours, we process information extremely quickly. And when we are stuck in stress mode the information seems a lot less like information and a lot more like threats to our entire existence.

I know, it may seem dramatic but it does explain the "random" night sweats and constant fatigue you've been feeling all this time, doesn't it?

Well, that's where Haven Health comes in! Read below on how nervous system focused chiropractic care can help!

At Haven Health Family and Wellness Chiropractic we track, assess, and use evidence based data to help us discover the exact approach to chiropractic care your nervous system is needing.

When you begin your journey at Haven Health, we first unpack the layers of your health that have started to build over time (yes, we will ask you about your birth!)

After your in-depth history consultation, you will receive a series of three scans to measure the patterns and feedback your brain is communicating to your body and vise versa.

We then come up with a game plan together on the best route to take to get you the most efficient results you are looking for...

In this case we often hear things like "I am going on walks and started a new workout routine!", "I can focus on my tasks at work and choose to take breaks when I can", and (our personal favorite) "I have enough energy to play with my kids after work again."

While everyone's journey will look different and there are no guarantees for what your journey will look like until you start care, we can promise you will be seen, heard, and experience a level of custom support that will leave you saying "I wish I'd found this sooner!"

It starts with objective measurements to what you'v been feeling!
